The Most Detailed Tutorial On: How to Dye your Hair At Home Using Bubble Hair Dye

I don't know about you guys, but once in a while, I'll want to change my hair colour. Dying your hair at a hair salon is however not cheap, so much more people are starting to dye their hair at home using bubble hair dye which is very affordable and easy to use! We offer bubble hair dye from two brands: Kao Liese & Mise-En-Scene with over 20 shades of colour for you to pick from. If you have never used a bubble hair dye before, this article will answer most of your questions and teach you on how to use it STEP BY STEP!

Commonly Asked Questions:

What is bubble hair dye?
Bubble hair dye is a permanent hair dye in the form of foamy bubbles. It's mess-free, affordable and as easy-to-use as shampooing your hair!
Is bubble hair dye permanent?
Yes, the Liese Creamy Bubble Colour and Mise-En-Scene Hello Bubble are permanent! They will last up to 6~8 weeks. Depending on your hair condition, i.e. whether it's been repeatedly bleached, coloured and permed, the colours and hues may change or start to fade in 2-3 weeks.
Is bubble hair dye less damaging compared to box hair dyes?

Yes, bubble hair dye is definitely less damaging to your hair in comparison to most traditional box dyes because it contains fewer harmful chemicals, like ammonia and metallic salts.

Can bubble hair dye cover grey hair?

Unfortunately, the Liese Creamy Bubble Hair Colour and Mise En Scene Hello Bubble cannot cover grey hair.

Do I need to run a skin allergy test every time before I dye my hair?

Yes, because it indicates if you are prone to having allergic reactions to hair colorant's ingredients. This usually involves dabbing a small amount of the dye solution behind your ear or on your inner elbow and leaving it to dry, 48 hours prior to dying your hair.

Is bubble hair dye Ammonia free?

Yes, both Kao Liese Creamy Bubble Colour and Mise-en-scene Hello Bubble are Ammonia-free, does not leave the hair dry and frizzy!

Do you wash your hair before bubble hair dye?

No, do not wash your hair before you dye it. The natural oil on your scalp and hair actually protects your skin from the chemicals and makes the colour more long lasting!

How should I choose hair dye colour? Which colour is suitable for me?

There's a lot to consider when choosing hair colour! Depending on what kind of look you want to achieve, there are several different colour recommendations! Have a look at the chart below to get an idea of what colour might suit you!

You might also want to consider your skin undertone! Warmer undertones generally suit warmer colours with red or yellow undertones, whilst cool undertones look better with blue undertones! However these are just general guidelines, not strict rules!

Do I need to bleach my hair for the colour to show up?

Nope! Whilst bleaching your hair will definitely help you get a super vibrant, bright colour, it actually isn't necessary for you to bleach your hair to see results! Black hair notoriously hard to see results on, but with most of these colours, if not all, you should be able to see visible results!

How to use Bubble Hair Dye

Step 1: Put on the plastic cape (included in the bubble hair dye kit) and some old clothes that you don't mind getting stained while you dye your hair.
Step 2: Cover the skin around your hairline with an oil-based skin care product (such as vaseline) to prevent the dye from staining your skin.
Step 3: Wear the gloves that come with the bubble hair dye to protect your skin and keep them on whenever you're working with the bubble dye.
Step 4: Comb your hair and remove any tangles so that the dye can be applied more evenly.
Step 5: Section your hair into multiple smaller sections so that the dye can be applied more easily and evenly. Get your comb and divide your hair into a center parting. Then divide each side of your parting into 2-4 smaller sections depending on how thick your hair is.
Step 6: Pour& mix solutions within the bubble dye kit together according to the instruction (each brand's instruction may vary so read them carefully) and mix gently by inverting the bottle. Avoid shaking the bottle.
Step 7: Place the foam cap on the bottle and carefully dispense the bubble into your palm until you have a tennis ball-sized dollop of foam.
Step 8: Apply the foam to your hair section by section. Run your palms down your hair, starting at the roots. Make sure to get an even covering of the foam in your hair and to work your way around your head. Repeat this step until all sections of your hair have been covered with foam.
Step 9: Gather all of your hair on the top of your head and use your fingers to massage the foam thoroughly into your scalp and hair. This ensures that the foam is evenly distributed throughout your hair.
Step 10: Leave the foam in your hair for 20 - 45 min (varies depending on the brand, make sure to read instructions carefully).
Step 11: Rinse your hair thoroughly to remove all of the bubble hair dye.
Step 12: Apply the rinse-off treatment (included in the bubble dye kit) to your hair, then rinse off after 2~3 minutes.
Step 13: For maintenance, use colour-protectant shampoo and conditioner if you want the hair colour to last longer. Keep reading to find out what to use.
