Clean Girl Makeup in 2023

Goodbye 2022 and Hello 2023! A year has already passed and it's the beginning of a new year! Since a year has passed, we are going to learn about all the different cosmetic trends that were popular in 2022 and the ways to achieve it! 

We all know that the makeup trends 5 years ago were more focused on full coverage “no blemish” matte foundation and eye-catching, vibrant eyeshadow. But after the strict covid restrictions with the mask mandates, people have been more into natural and light weight makeup to feel less stuffy under their masks (especially in the summer). This caused people to switch up their makeup and skincare routine to reduce the amount of foundation and focus on their skin to create the natural glowing face. This “clean girl” makeup trend is the definition of natural makeup! People have been minimising the amount of makeup used to give them a natural glowy clean makeup look!

To achieve the “clean girl” makeup, skincare and base routine is the most important step!! 

Oh how I wish I could be born with flawless skin but NO! I got bad skin and it definitely shows through layers of concealers. So I started off by changing up my skincare routine to brighten my uneven skin tone and acne scars as well as giving me an inner glow making my skin glass-like! 

BEAUTY OF JOSEON GLOW SERUM (Propolis + Niacinamide)

This serum is a glow serum that is infused with 60% propolis and 2% niacinamide to help fight inflammation and acne. It helps with the sebum production and secretion helping balancing oil and moisture levels on your skin! The dense honey-like texture helps your skin to be hydrated throughout the whole day without leaving it sticky whilst giving you a subtle glow! This serum is a must before I apply my foundation as it gives me a gorgeous inner glow!

BEAUTY OF JOSEON GLOW DEEP SERUM (Rice + Alpha-Arbutin)

Another serum by the “Beauty of Joseon”! The difference in these two products is that the glow serum focuses on the outer glow of the skin and deep glow serum focuses on the deeper inner glow of the skin. This serum is infused with 70% of Rice water which is rich in minerals and amino acids helping your skin to stay hydrated as well as helping with pigmentations on your face. The Alpha Arbutin is an ingredient that helps with prevention of pigmentation and the excessive production of melanin. 

Now to the makeup side! Having a thin layer of foundation is one way of achieving the “clean girl” makeup! It allows our skin to breathe through the foundation while revealing our natural beauty and glow! 

The new biggest k-beauty trend in 2022 is to apply foundation with a makeup spatula! Now this trend had originated from a makeup artist that wanted to create a smooth glass like skin on all her clients while having long lasting benefits therefore she used a blunt spatula type painting tool. After introducing this method any makeup lovers were able to purchase a makeup spatula and try for themselves that want thin, natural, even skin. This makeup method is also very common on kpop idols in korea, because the layer of foundation is this it also helps achieve a long lasting, less cakey effect! To those people that have some areas that they want to cover up, try layering another small thin layer on top and blending it in with a sponge. Make sure you are taking your time!! Patience is key in this routine! One wrong move and it will look all cakey.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Squeeze one pump of foundation on to the skin 
2. Hold your spatula and tilt the spatula and stroke the spatula onto the foundation.
3. Just like applying butter on bread, go in to out on your face.
4. Use a wet sponge to blend
5. To create more coverage use another layer of foundation on top
6. Place with blemishes, try using a small amount of concealer using a brush.
